Ted Cruz wants you to watch this clip of Bill Maher drawing a different lesson from Afghanistan that what you might expect

As I was looking for something to post this morning, I saw that Ted Cruz retweeted a Bill Maher video from his show last night. Cruz said in his tweet:

“Remarkable sign of the times: Died-in-the-wool-Liberal @billmaher is consistently one of the few voices of sanity on air. I disagree with him on a LOT of issues, but he doesn’t hate America…and he calls out those who say they do.”

Here’s the clip he’s talking about and, as usual with Bill Maher, LANGUAGE WARNING:

In this clip Maher draws a different lesson from Afghanistan that what you might be expecting. He highlights something that hits close to home for him, how the Taliban dragged an Afghan comedian into a car, tortured and killed him.

I watched the whole video and while it’s not the easiest thing to watch, as Maher takes shots at Republicans along the way to his greater point, he does go on to slam the woke crowd for their hate-America garbage that they constantly spew. He highlights oppression and poverty around the world in contrast to the freedoms and riches we enjoy here. He looks at America through the lens of an Afghan refugee who would undoubtedly balk at the suggestion that America is a horrible and racist country. No, he says that Afghan refugee would tell that woke America-hater what true oppression and hatred looks like.

Maher comes to the conclusion that many of us have been echoing for years, telling his audience that there’s a reason why these Afghan refugees at the airport in Kabul are handing their babies over the fence to American soldiers. It’s the same point we always make when we point out that people around the world are running to get into this country. Because for all of our problems, America is still the beacon of freedom and liberty in this world, and that is something to be loved and appreciated, not hated.
