Texas Gov. Greg Abbott explains to Pete Buttigieg why America is the greatest nation in the world

Late last night Governor Greg Abbott explained to 2020 candidate Pete Buttigieg why America is both the greatest and most exceptional nation in the world:

What Abbott is referring to is Buttigieg’s message from last week that “America is not as great as advertised”.

Democrats love to hate on America when running for president. They love to point to slavery and the era of segregation as if these are fatal flaws in our country’s DNA.

But I like much more the perspective from Abbott, whose argument regarding “opportunity for all” doesn’t ignore slavery and segregation, but views them as imperfections in the rear-view mirror that America has overcome.

And of course he points to the obvious fact as evidence that even a gay man, who is clearly a minority in this country, can run for president just as a paraplegic can become governor.

This is where I choose to repeat a comment I made a week ago.

There is this thing called growing, from inception, through birth, and through life. This phenomenon isn’t limited to humans or animals. The greatest country on this planet, America, is a living, growing entity. Mistakes have been made and growing pains have often been very painful and left chronic aches. But, America has a founding document and principals and rights that hateful children and interlopers through the ages work hard to destroy, sometimes successfully. America has always been great, in spite of its childhood blemishes, most of which we recognized the folly of and changed. GOD BLESS AMERICA, Land that I Love! praying heart

What an awesome answer! I do love our Governor here in Texas! He’d make an excellent President.

Heck, didn’t we allow an extremely compromised gay man to run the FBI for about 4 decades, and to extort a whole series of presidents whom he held blackmail on?

How’s that for freedom and diversity?

I love my governor….meanwhile, Progressivism is a religion comprised of oppressive, Imperialistic liars, that has overtaken the democrat party and many in the GOP (aka: RINOs). America’s founders fought against Kings (and Queens) in favor of self-governance. Our Constitution was written to protect and defend the citizenship of America and to remove power from government, except as to defend our nation from invasion from America’s enemies in the world. Democrats and RINOs are failing the American people who elected them. Americans do not want or need Progressivism to dominate our government, which is why ALL voters must toss out Progressives from BOTH PARTIES in all upcoming elections, until we can trust again. America defeated Progressivism, in our government, just shy of 100 years ago, and we must defeat again.

There’s that guy with the eyepatch, and the retarded kid from the Bronx, and that crazy lady in the headthing that I’m not even sure is an actual American, and whatever Rand Paul is (and whatever it is, I like it!). Diversity!

Common sense would render this to be a losing strategy because they are trashing the country and it’s citizens. But it’s a winner because Democrats pander to special interest groups and paint them all as victims of the country.

This is anti-American and pathetic. they should be ashamed.

“Democrats love to hate on America when running for president. They love to point to slavery and the era of segregation as if these are fatal flaws in our country’s DNA.”

And that’s why the dems are scared to death of Trump. Voters respond to a positive message and I think Trump will wipe the floor with them.

Ironically, Democrats are the ones that were for slavery and segregation back in the day. Now they try to project their sins onto the whole nation.

That’s the way most of thinking non-victims view American history. In the rear view mirror. Yes, we have things that are not stellar in our past, but we dwell in the present and how life is today. We pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps and move on. We don’t wallow in pity and despair. We have saved millions of lives around the world. We are the great country in the world. We don’t need to be MAGA, we have always been great. Don’t let the left change that.

Leftists like Booty-Judge operate under the false assumption that, since the rest of the world isn’t perfect, then the US cannot be great. They are truly collectivists.

It’s like saying there are no good husbands because one husband, somewhere, at some time in history, once beat his wife. But wait, I’ve never beat my wife. Doesn’t matter. Some husband did, somewhere, so no husband is great.

The Left is the “aggrieved” in our society. They are always unhappy with someone or something and, at the same time, think they have the answer………………more government. They want to play God in everyone’s life which never works because there is only ONE God! They are obsessed with power……..THEIRS and will try to destroy anyone who stands in their way of getting it.

Buttigieg, his party and the people who vote for him and others like him are prime examples of the failure of our educational system. They have only a vague knowledge of world history except for the almost cartoonish propaganda that they are taught. Yes, America has had its dark times but compared to the history of Europe, Asia and/or Africa America is almost “Little Miss Goody-Two-Shoes” in comparison to the bloody and violent histories of the majority of the world. Slavery did not originate with America and neither did tyranny and it most certainly wasn’t done on the monolithic scale that other countries perpetrated on people. The nations today did not spring fully formed with a pristine innocence of wrongdoing. They were built on warfare, theft, tyranny and subjugation. Most nations, if not all, were formed by someone conquering, enslaving or displacing someone else. Humanity is vicious and I believe… Read more »

One wonders why so many people come here, both legally and illegally, if America isn’t so great. Dems and leftists (there pretty much the same these days) expect a perfect utopia, which has never existed anywhere. Good luck with them finding a perfect country.

It did exist, in the Garden of Eden, and it only took two people to screw it up for everyone else.

It’s like my old pastor used to say, “If you find a perfect church, don’t join, because as soon as you do it won’t be perfect anymore.”

Hi Eric, I think there is a distinction. Utopias are man-made. They try to bring us back to Eden, but without God. I once heard someone say all utopias are Satanic. I think that is accurate, and when man tries it, it always ends up being a tyranny.

I agree on your distinction between Eden and Utopias, and this is actually part of my point. Biblically speaking we lived in perfect communion with God in Eden, but still managed to destroy that perfection. How would we ever expect to make a man-made Utopia/Eden? It just ain’t happening!

There was a Pakistani doctor doing his residency in Dallas. He was “triggered” by an American flag. The hospital made the nurses take down the flag. Why is he here?

I met a family of refugees from Yemen in Djibouti. The two youngest kids were “American,” one born in Georgia while the father was on a student VISA, the other on a “trip.” The oldest son, 17, hated America. He blamed us for the war in Yemen and for antagonizing “peaceful” Iran. Unlike his younger “American” siblings, his English was excellent. He attend grammar school in Georgia — for free. If the family hated America, why were they there? Why did they ensure two of their sons were US citizens?

And a black man, well a 1/2 black man, was POTUS for 8 years.

Yup, seems like things aren’t as bad as the Dems would like to see them here in this great country. But then they so love to play the victim.

Lucky you – or rather smart voters you.

We must now hang out heads in shame here in Wisconsin as our good Governor Scott Walker has been replaced by the libs in and around Milwaukee and Madison who voted for a pinhead who promised to raise taxes. And they voted for that!

Ain’t no cure for stupid.

I was so sad when you lost Scott Walker as gov. My son was stationed in Milwaukee when he was in the Marine Corps just a few months before Scott was voted in. We came up to visit him and were so delighted with Wisconsin. We really enjoyed visiting there. Folks were so friendly and nice. We could sense though the changing times right before Scott was elected. I was glad that they got a good man but was amazed when later they threw him over for someone who’d just be repeating what they’d got rid of! Just don’t understand people sometimes, sigh.

It’s the Eastern mysticism influence. They truly believe that they can create their own reality just by believing it is so. They believe that they can usher in Utopia just by thinking it into being. Just another riff on Genesis 3:5 “you too shall be as gods…”

NYGinoNYGino That is an excellent question. They idolize socialism so much, Russia, China, Cuba, a couple South American countries. There’s most likely many more, but as you & many Americans know they pale in comparison with freedoms & liberties we enjoy being an American.

I think one of the reasons why they don’t leave is that it would be admitting that they’d lost the argument and being the fragile little sociopaths that they are that is just unthinkable. So they stay and fight even when deep down on some visceral level they know that everything they stand for is unworkable, unethical, immoral and much of it violent just to name a few things.
