Texas Republican warns police officers there are CONSEQUENCES for shooting unarmed rioters in wake of Rittenhouse ruling

Texas Republican Trey Nehls just put out a statement telling police officers to use “extreme caution” when dealing with potential rioters after the Rittenhouse verdict next week, warning there will be ‘consequences’ for shooting unarmed rioters in the wake of the Rittenhouse ruling.

Honestly, I find this offensive. Perhaps Nehls means well, but police officers don’t need to be told to use ‘extreme caution’ when dealing with these violent rioters. They don’t need to be warned not to shoot unarmed rioters.

Police officers know what their job is and how to deal with rioters. Above everything else, they need to ensure they can go home to their families at the end of the day. They need to protect themselves as well as innocent bystanders from violent rioters. That’s what they need to worry about. If it means shooting someone who threatens their life or the life of someone else, armed or unarmed, then so be it. They have to do what they must.

I think what really offends me about this statement is it makes it sound like law enforcement is the problem. He makes it sound like cops shoot “unarmed individuals” all the time. But they don’t!

And then he throws in Ashli Babbit to appeal to the Trump crowd. I don’t buy it. It sounds to me like Nehls is spewing quasi BLM propaganda, and the left will surely use this against Republicans.

Even more than that, it’s also the way Nehls frames his statement, warning officers about shooting unarmed rioters. Police officers have been working in this toxic anti-police environment for a long time now. They know there are consequences, not for shooting unarmed individuals, but for just doing their damn job.

The officers in Atlanta were doing their job. The officers in Kenosha were doing their job. The officers in Columbus were doing their jobs. They weren’t shooting unarmed individuals, they were stopping threats to their lives and to others.

Seriously, I don’t know what Nehls was thinking when he put this out.
