Texas student suspended for removing school sanctioned Mexican flag

Via Breitbart.tv, this is an interesting story. Listen to the audio for details, but the bottom line is that the student couldnt figure out who hung the Mexican flag in the school, especially higher than the American flag, and decided to take it upon himself to remove it. His mother had tried to get in touch with an official at the school but was unable to do so before her son took it down. The student then threw it in the trash, which was a certainly huge mistake, and was summarily suspended for 3 days. Laura says at the end that the student was in the ROTC and cared about flag etiquette.

Im not necessarily outraged by the story, but I do feel that the suspension is a bit heavy. The student should certainly pay for the flag since he threw it away, but since the school now promises never to hang any other flag other than the US flag, it would seem the student was right in his intent.
