The ratings are in for CNN’s Democratic debate last night and it AIN’T GOOD

CNN had their first Democratic debate last night, only the second debate of the season, and ratings have already plummeted:

DC EXAMINER – The first in the second round of presidential debates saw a steep decline in ratings from the party’s first set of debates last month.

Tuesday night’s debate, which was hosted by CNN, held an audience of approximately 8.7 million viewers, according to a CNN press release. The release states 2.8 million people streamed the debate on the network’s digital platforms resulting in a total audience of 11.5 million people. The debate prominently featured 2020 big-names Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who defended their progressive policy agendas against more moderate, low-polling candidates.

The first night of last month’s debate, hosted by NBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo, had an audience of slightly over 15 million viewers. The second night was higher, coming in at 18.1 million viewers.

Dropping from 15 million to 11 million is pretty steep, especially when you consider that during the Republican primaries in 2016, CNN ratings were much higher for the early debates they hosted. They had 23 million for the second debate of the season and 18 million for the 5th debate of the season.

While I know CNN’s standards have plummeted in recent years with their anti-Trump fervor, I suspect the biggest reason so few tuned in last night was because of the candidates themselves.

Tonight’s debate will probably have a bigger audience, since it once again will have Biden and Harris at the center of the ring, but I don’t expect it to get anywhere close to 18 million viewers.
