The press and Democrats have been giving birth to whole herds of cows over the supposed “shift” at the The Washington Post away from the left. Depending on who you ask, the paper is either Jeff Bezos’s personal pro-Trump bulletin board or a once-great newsroom that sold its soul. Or somehow both.
Now, the left always eat their own sooner or later, so it’s not a surprise exactly. And Democrats are incapable of tolerating anything short of absolute obedience in the media. So when one of the most central pieces of the progressive left’s propaganda kingdom for decades first became part of the Bezos empire over a decade agao, they had conniption fits right away.
But when WaPo didn’t endorse Kamala in 2024, the world really ended, and the sun was black as pitch and the moon was as blood. Then there were layoffs and the sports section was cut, and everyone in the rest of the mainstream media came together in religious certainty that it proved Trump controls the paper. And even though they’d all decided years ago and months ago that it was a right-wing outfit no longer worth of the paper it was printed on, the layoffs also somehow were a great and terrible loss to journalism and democracy and ice cream and whatnot.
But here’s the thing. That’s all stupid.
If you actually look at what the Post is doing, not what idiots say it’s doing, it’s easy to see their new footing. Because it ain’t half as clever as they think it is. They’re doing what they desperately want to do, what they’ve always done: shilling for the left. They’re just trying to make it seem like they aren’t.
I mean, take this latest piece on Trump’s idea to buy bankrupt Spirit Airlines, framed neatly around Republican backlash. See, they are pitching it like “no it’s not us, it’s Republicans who object!” And sure, that’s true enough. Many do and with good reason. But folks, that ain’t the WaPo’s reason. Their reason is the same as always: hurt Republicans, hurt Trump. They just have a new strategy.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying buying Spirit is the right thing. This isn’t about that. They want you to be worried about that part and not noticing what they’re up to. And what they’re up to, besides the bashing and hurting, is the same day-in, day-out effort to push Democrat ideas, Democrat policies, Democrat talking points, and Democrat politicians down America’s throat.
Last week, WaPo ran an editorial blasting the 340B drug discount program I’ve talked about before. It’s a complicated thing and there are people on the (R) side of the aisle who blast it, and who support it. But the short version of the story is that the DNC’s best pals in Big Pharma absolutely hate it, for the obvious reasons. Most Dems hate it too, maybe because of their Pharma investors, maybe because it benefits MAGA voters in red states. Maybe because it costs taxpayers nothing and they can’t stand that.
Now, getting rid of the program would definitely cost taxpayers: By some estimates a $500 billion (minimum) taxpayer-funded bailout for rural hospitals and systems, to be specific. Whatever evil motive drives the left, you can be sure that’s what drives The Washington Post, too.
Since WaPo’s supposed ideological change, it has run countless editorials blasting tariffs—a core Trump policy. The Post has also attacked tighter immigration laws, detentions and deportations, and ICE policies on a regular basis. Another regular feature is editorials trashing the administration for “politicizing” the Department of Justice and various investigations and prosecutions, or undercutting “norms” (both things Biden did in spades). They’ve also sided with Big Pharma specifically on issues like NIH funding and medical use of peptides. And they’ve sided with the alphabet soup crowd that wants drag queens to have access to kids, and the “Latinx” weirdos who most actual Hispanic people can’t stand. (Trust me, I’m Texan.)
Now, this can’t be a surprise to anyone. Of the three new “conservative” editorial board members announced by the Post, one admitted to not voting for Trump in 2024, another was a Nikki Haley fangirl and wannabe “centrist,” and the other voted for Biden in 2020. VOTED. FOR. BIDEN.
So, you know, spare me. The Washington Post is what it always was, it just has slightly better window dressing, updated for the times. And by the way, when it comes to CBS News under Bari Weiss? I’m saying the jury is still out. We’ll see. So the bottom line is: when these old MSM behemoths claim, or when other people claim about them, that they’ve made some turn toward the right, just remember that what constitutes a “turn” for the left is anything short of vocal and enthusiastic tongue baths on a regular basis.
