Last night on MSNBC something incredible happened. Just watch the clip:
If you can’t watch it, here’s a transcript:
NY TIMES MARA GAY: Somebody tweeted recently that actually with the money [Bloomberg] spent he could’ve given every American a million dollars.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: I’ve got it, let’s put it up on the screen. When I read it tonight on social media it kind of all became clear. “Bloomberg spent $500 million on ads. The US population is 327 million.” Don’t tell us if you’re ahead of us on the math. “He could have given each American $1 million and still have lunch money left over.”
That’s an incredible way of putting it.
NY TIMES MARA GAY: It’s an incredible way of putting it. It’s true, it’s disturbing. It does suggest what we’re talking about here, that there’s too much money in politics…
They didn’t even question the math, not even for a moment. I honestly don’t know how this got past a producer on MSNBC. Are they all idiots? Somebody had to prep it to put it on the screen! It would take 327 TRILLION spent in order to give every American $1 million dollars. Bloomberg spending 500 million would only give every American just over a buck and a half. $1.53 dollars to be exact.
The girl who actually wrote the tweet has since completely locked her account and her website. She wrote in the bio “I know, I’m bad at math.” Ya think?
