A cafe in California is making news, and gathering a huge amount of support, for a new policy they instituted during the Covid vaccine era: open your mouth, pay a fine. Cover your mouth, pay another.
Fiddleheads Cafe is Mendocino, California has been fighting against Covid restrictions for a while now, trying to keep their doors open and retain their right to earn a living, engage in trade, and, you know, eat food. They’ve been fighting the government telling them to give up their livelihoods because Fauci told them to.
They have some signs available at the site for other restaurants.
And now they have a new set of signs. They warn of the new policy. Pay $5 for ordering while masked. And if you brag about getting the vaccine, you get another $5 charge.
The owner spoke with NBC Bay Area channel KNTV.
Owner Chris Castleman told NBC Bay Area some customers have paid the $5 fee while others have expressed shock and outrage. He says the “fee” ultimately is an optional donation as it goes to charities assisting domestic abuse victims.
“Customers either love it or hate it,” he said via email. “There are people who refuse to pay it; I guess a $5 donation to charity is too much for them. Others have gladly paid it knowing that it goes to a good cause. I don’t force anyone to pay, I give them the freedom of choice, which seems to be a foreign concept in these parts of the country.”
Previously he has offered the signs above and even a “GET YOUR FREE COVID-19 VACCINE CARD HERE!” sign, that included “a photocopy of what appeared to be an official COVID-19 vaccination record card.”
Castleman is running a GoFundMe for fees from the city over Covid “violations.” The restaurant is also selling t-shirts to raise money.
Entrepreneurial. Pro-freedom. Little guy fighting big government. And thumbing his nose at the strutting virtue signal industry, right in its heart: California.
Yeup. I like em. Don’t get me wrong, the owner is kind of a nut. He has some crazy stuff on his site. But that’s the point though, ain’t it? You’re supposed to be ALLOWED to be like that. These are the United States of America ain’t they?
We’re free or we aren’t. It’s a pretty simple equation.
