There was a mall fight this week between a black teen and a white teen and everyone is racing to say the cops were racist because they only handcuffed the black teen:
I will admit that it doesn’t look great, but at the same time I don’t know what the cops were thinking and it’s way too early to come to any knee jerk conclusions.
Really, the male cop did exactly what I would have expected him to do. After they forcibly separating the two teens, he proceeded to handcuff the teen that he had on the floor.
The female cop didn’t do the same, she just sat the other teen on the couch and then proceeded to help her male counterpart. Even when the other teen stood up off the couch, she didn’t immediately get up and sit him back down. She did eventually, but still never handcuffed him in the video.
Now it’s easy to say this is racism, but the truth is we don’t have all the facts. We don’t know what they saw or what were thinking in the moment. And honestly, I’m not one to quickly judge the actions of police officers.
