“The language he uses in his manifesto is all about invaders. It’s also language the President Trump used in a campaign ad before the midterm election,” said CNN anchor John Berman in his snippet in the clip below.
This montage, put together by Grabien, is shocking. It is shocking because of how casually they blame the president, and how they don’t bother with any caveats at all. You would think that at least saying “we can’t draw a direct line” or “yes this psycho brought up Trump, but his manifesto had a whole lot else in it too” or even “despite calling Trump a “symbol”, the killer’s references to motivation relied heavily on 8chan ideology” would be the rule. But nope. No caveat. No other bad guys. Not even the actual bad guys. It’s just Trump. Just like everything else, he’s the only bad guy.

One clip not included was highlighted by Newsbusters on Friday morning, where a CNN contributor just seconds after hearing the Prime Minister of New Zealand talk about the details of the attack, made his very first comment be about Trump.
This obsessive focus is so bad for us all. Seems like some folks are confused about that, even around here. But don’t be confused, the Trump obsession is bad. This kind of thing is how you fail to realize a threat: By not understanding what is really behind it, or everything that is behind it.
It’s also crazy short-sighted to simply make Donald Trump the hook to hang every bad thing that ever happens on. Is it possible when he’s gone the whole world just becomes some utopia and nothing bad ever happens again?
Then what the heck are you doing, CNN? This terror attack should be an alarm, alright. It should be an alarm about a threat that is complicated, that is internal to each country but exists across the globe, but has dozens of fathers.
But no. No no. Don’t caveat. Hey don’t be careful at all. Don’t point out the dozens of threads of this terrible story and the investigation of it. No, forget all that. Just blame Trump. That’ll fix it. Right?
If y’all pray, you should pray. For the victims. For New Zealand. And for the benighted American press landscape that may doom us all for its lazy, incurious, dishonest, partisan ignorance.
Just pray. Even though Ocasio-Cortez thinks it’s a waste of time.
