Tim Allen opens up about Roseanne: There are things you can’t say, shouldn’t say… Who makes up these rules?

Actor Tim Allen was promoting his once and future show “Last Man Standing” tonight at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills and he was asked about Roseanne being fired and her show cancelled.

Allen’s conservative-leaning show, which is soon to premier on its new network, Fox, was previously on ABC and it, too was cancelled.

Entertainment Weekly reports tonight that Allen was asked about Roseanne and the firing, and he had some questions of his own.

From EW.com:
Tim Allen is opening up about the other conservative sitcom star whose show was canceled by ABC — Roseanne Barr.

Asked whether the network was right to fire Barr over her racist tweet last May, Allen replied, “I go way back with Rosie and that’s not the Rosie I know. She was the most diverse and tolerant woman I’ve ever known for a long time. Whatever got in her head isn’t the Roseanne I know. It’s a very icy time. I’ve been a comedian for 38 years and I’ve never seen it, like Lenny Bruce said at the Purple Onion, ‘We’ve gone backwards.’ There are things you can’t say. There are things you shouldn’t say. Who makes up these rules? And as a stand-up comic, it’s a dangerous position to be in because I like pushing buttons. It’s unfortunate.”

But did ABC make the right decision? “They had to do what they had to do and it’s their decision.”

Allen made the comments Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills after a panel with Last Man Standing showrunner Kevin Abbott promoting Fox’s revival of the former ABC comedy series.

Interestingly, in the “Last Man Standing” panel discussion he was asked whether his character on the show is a Trump supporter. Allen said it was a “legitimate question” and offered an interesting answer, EW reports.

“I think the guy is a centrist … he’s probably pro-Trump. He probably doesn’t defend him. He’s for whatever is good for his business and for the state of Colorado. I’m not the character I play. Keanu Reeves didn’t actually murder 100 people in John Wick. What’s interesting to me is pissing people off.”

That last line gave me chuckle. There’s a lot more on the show, and Allen, in the EW story.

As for his question about who makes the rules… it’s a good one. You might say philosophers and observers of society have been asking it since Socrates. But when it comes to the specific rules about political correctness in modern American society, there are only two answers, and which one you take to depends on whether you’re from group A or group B.

If you’re from group A – conservatives, Republicans, and Trumpists – the answer to who makes these rules is clearly the MSM.

If you’re group B – leftists, democrats, liberals, or whatever confounded thing they are calling themselves these days (democratic socialists?) – then the answer is: There’s only one rule, and it’s ‘don’t be from group A.’

So there you go, Tim. The Right Scoop is here for you, bud.
