Tom Cotton exposed the bizarre hypocrisy of Microsoft for working with the communist dictatorship of China while refusing to work with law enforcement in the United States.
So @Microsoft will work on AI & facial recognition tools with the Chinese military, but not US law enforcement? 🤔 https://t.co/TpnfsoN50Q

I do think that there’s a simply explanation for the double standard. Basically, Microsoft is responding to the outrage and furor expressed in the protests in the U.S. They just don’t have that problem in China because they stomp down all protests.
Also, it must be noted that is a temporary ban, not one in perpetuity:
In a statement, Microsoft said it has worked on enacting principles and legislation for the software’s use.
“We do not sell our facial recognition technology to U.S. police departments today, and until there is a strong national law grounded in human rights, we will not sell this technology to police,” the company said. The Washington Post first reported the news.
But, just because there’s a reason for the hypocrisy doesn’t mean there’s an excuse. Cotton is right for pointing out that in following this double standard, Microsoft is tacitly approving of the communist dictatorship while affirming criticism of U.S. law enforcement.
