It’s a dark night in Ukraine, but one lit up with fires and explosions as Russian forces continue their attacks. The convoy has not arrived in Kyiv yet but the shelling there to soften the city is heavy, and likewise in cities across Ukraine.
Kherson was described as “contested” by the Pentagon today, but it’s now all but entirely under Russian control, the first city to come under the boot of Putin’s war machine entirely.
Trey Yingst was live a short time ago with the latest.
The mayor of Kherson posted on Facebook on Wednesday that the city was effectively under martial law, enforced by Russian troops, and warned his citizens to cooperate. He instructed citizens to travel only in groups of one or two people, to not provoke the Russians, and to obey orders to stop on the “first demand.”
Kherson is an important port city and controls access to an important bridge, necessary for taking the whole of Ukraine as opposed to just the eastern part.
Which is obviously Putin’s goal here.
