Troy Aikman claps back at reporter, hammers Green Bay for firing McCarthy mid-season

Troy Aikman was not happy with Green Bay’s decision to fire Mike MccArthy, their long-time head coach mid-season.

He said that he feels McCarthy deserved better.

But a reporter thought that was too cliche or something…

TMZ – Enter Gerry Callahan — one half of the famous WEEI Mut & Callahan show … who hated Aikman’s take so much, he scorched him on social media.

“Troy Aikman, cliche machine, says Mike McCarthy deserved better,” Callahan wrote.

“McCarthy was head coach in Green Bay for 13 years. He won one Super Bowl. How long did he deserve, Troy? Fourteen years? Twenty?”

Troy Aikman didn’t take long to hit back at Callahan, saying…

“Two losing seasons in 12 years (one of those last year without Rodgers for 9 games); took the Packers to the playoffs in 9 of the last 11 seasons; 4 NFC Championship Games, 1 Super Bowl title.”

“Yes Gerry, he deserved better than to be fired mid-season. Is that cliche enough for ya”

Wow. Well when you put it that way…

I’m not a huge Green Bay fan, but I like them ok and pull for them sometimes over teams like the evil New England Patriots. But it’s astonishing to me that a coach with this kind of winning record would be fired mid-season. Whether you think he needed to go or not, it’s absolutely classless to dump him like that mid-season.

You know, if the critics had their way, Jerry Jones would have dumped Jason Garrett a few weeks ago after the first half of a pretty ugly season for the Cowboys. But he didn’t and look at them now, beating one of the most high-powered teams in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints, last Thursday night – something only few thought they could do.

My point is that the owner of the Packers should have stuck with McCarthy at least until the end of the season. Rogers is certainly in better health than he was for the first half of the season and the team could make a turn around.
