Trudeau to invoke Canada’s Emergencies Act to crush Freedom Convoy protest

Prime Minister Trudeau has decided to invoke Canada’s Emergencies Act in order to stop the Freedom Convoy protest that fills streets of Ottawa:

NEWSMAX – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday was expected to invoke rarely-used emergency powers to bring an end to trucker-led protests against COVID-19 health rules, as police arrested 11 people with a “cache of firearms” blocking a border crossing with the United States in Alberta.

Trudeau will invoke the Emergencies Act to give the government extra powers in a national crisis to bring an end to the trucker-led protests now entering a third week, according to public broadcaster CBC.

Hundreds of big rigs still clog the streets of the capital Ottawa.

He was to discuss the situation with premiers across the country and hold a news conference Monday at 4.30 pm (2130 GMT), a day after convening a special federal response group on efforts to end the occupation of Ottawa and remaining blockades of border crossings in Alberta and Manitoba.

The Emergencies Act has only been used once in peacetime — by Trudeau’s father, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, during the October Crisis of 1970.

It saw troops sent to Quebec to restore order after the kidnappings by militant separatists of a British trade attache and a Quebec minister, Pierre Laporte, who was found strangled to death in the trunk of a car.

According to the Montreal Gazette, this is an overview of what Emergencies Act gives Trudeau the ability to do:

By invoking the act, the federal government can authorize special temporary measures, including domestic travel restrictions, to ensure safety and security during national emergencies anywhere in Canada.

A declaration of a public welfare emergency allows the government to regulate the distribution of essential goods, decide what are essential services and impose fines on violations of the act. It sets out a compensation scheme for those who suffer damages as a result of its application.

I fully expect Trudeau will have troops on the ground in order to crush this protest, which only started because of his oppressive mandates. So it begins with tyranny and ends with tyranny.

Meanwhile, at least one premier opposes the use of the Emergencies Act:

Quebec does not want the federal government to invoke the Emergencies Act in the province, Premier François Legault says.

Speaking to reporters in Longueuil, Legault was asked about speculation that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will this afternoon announce that he will invoke the Act to give federal authorities more power to quell protests and blockades.

In his response, Legault noted that he and other premiers discussed the issue in a conference call this morning.

“I was very clear: we do not want a federal state of emergency on the territory of Quebec,” Legault told reporters.

I understand that other premiers are against it as well:
