Trump announces new Border Czar

Trump announced today that he has picked someone to be his new border czar:

NY POST – President Trump on Friday announced that Thomas Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will return to his administration as the new “border czar.”

“He’ll be a border czar. He’ll be reporting directly to me,” the president said in an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “He’s going to be very involved with the border.”

Homan’s nomination to be ICE director had been held in the Senate last year amid concerns from lawmakers over his record with the agency.

He had said that virtually every undocumented immigrant living in the US was subject to removal, and the number of arrests of illegal immigrants with no criminal convictions rose sharply on his watch.

Trump said he had intended to make the announcement next week, “but I’d rather announce it now.”

According to Wikipedia Homan has been a border agent, an investigator, and a supervisor and was also named to the executive associate director position during the Obama administration in 2013. Of course he was named as acting director of ICE in 2017.

Daniel Horowitz says that Homan’s appointment as border czar is amazing news, but he has just one question:

Well my guess is that since Homan will report directly to Trump, McAleenan will have the final say unless Homan gets Trump to overrule him on something. But who knows. I guess we’ll find out soon.
