Assad attacked rebels and civilians with a horrible gas attack that is being widely condemned, and Trump just released a statement on it:
Remember when we mocked Obama for blaming everything on his predecessor? Now it’s brilliant!! Though of course, he has a point. Obama idiotically said over and over again that Assad had crossed a “red line,” which apparently just means that it will trigger more statements on “red lines.”
State Sec. Tillerson also released a statement, which appears to be more forceful, but only asks for a ceasefire. That only delays the inevitable war, it doesn’t change anything.
At least he’s bright enough to spread some of the blame to Russia and Iran, both who are backing Assad’s regime in Syria.
There are no easy answers in the Middle East, but it looks like Trump is going to blame Obama for everything and let the world keep sliding into hell.
Some people are pointing to these tweets to show Trump’s hypocrisy on the issue:
AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA – IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2013
President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2013
We should not attack Syria but if they make the stupid move to do so, the Arab League, whose members are laughing at us, should pay!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2013
President Obama's weakness and indecision may have saved us from doing a horrible and very costly (in more ways than money) attack on Syria!

Oh well. While Trump does indeed talk out of both sides of his mouth, there are no easy answers on Syria. I expect that he’ll do nothing, demand other people solve the problem, and we’ll see more horrible war crimes. This is the way of the world.
