Trump blasts DeSantis, shoots down VP idea, then says ‘I’m not looking to attack Republicans’

Trump on Friday night attacked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a failure on covid and a Paul Ryan “disciple” who he is beating handily in the polls, and shot down talk of the two being on the same ticket for 2024. But that he doesn’t like attacking fellow Republicans.

Newsmax’s Robb Schmitt asked Trump about the 2024 idea and whether it was ever even an option. It was definitely not.

“No, I never thought of it. I think that we have a lot of great people in the Republican Party. I never thought of it, but you know, some people every once in a while mentioned it, but that’s about it. No, I think that would be a very unlikely alliance,” said Trump.

He took credit for DeSantis’s career, saying he “appointed him” after Ron was “failing badly in the polls.”

He said DeSantis can’t win, bashed him for his votes on socialist security, called him a “disciple of Paul Ryan” who was a “loser in many ways,” and a “bad person to be a disciple of.”

When Schmitt said it’s hard to watch the infighting, Trump replied that he has to get the word out. He then said DeSantis did a bad job on the pandemic — which is frankly absurd and you have to use Democrat talking points to even suggest it — and added that even though DeSantis hasn’t announced, “I just assume he’s running and so therefore I attack.”

“But I’m not looking to attack Republicans,” he added.

Folks, I’m just saying what happened, don’t shoot the messenger.

President Trump is holding a rally on Saturday in Waco, Texas, and you can bet this stuff is going to be a major point he makes. Watch live here.

In the meantime …
