Late last night Trump took to Twitter to call Democrats out for what he called their ‘treasonous’ behavior.
Here’s what he had to say:
I think what the Democrats are doing with the Border is TREASONOUS. Their Open Border mindset is putting our Country at risk. Will not let this happen!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 11, 2019
The media doesn’t like the word ‘treasonous’ used by Trump, but all he’s saying is that Democrats are betraying the country by allowing this crisis to continue at the border. And he’s not wrong.
Here’s an example. Watch as Dana Bash confronts Mike Pence about Trump’s ‘treasonous’ comments at the border:
She asks Pence how Trump can use a word like ‘treason’, which she says is punishable by death, and go from that rhetoric to a relationship working across the aisle to fix the border issues. Heh.
I get the basis for her question, but to be honest the word treason is thrown around a lot these days, especially at Trump. Both CNN and MSNBC did segments last year asking if Trump had committed treason after John Brennan accused him of treason.
And just to be clear, Trump isn’t suggesting that Democrats should be arrested and tried for Treason. He didn’t name a single person in his tweet. No, he’s simply conveying to the American people that Democrats are betraying the country by letting the crisis continue unabated without lifting a finger to try and fix it.
To give credence to his point, Pelosi has already announced the House will sue Trump to stop him from building a border wall after their legislation to thwart him failed via a Trump veto.
