The Trump campaign has released an interesting statement tonight, saying that Sidney Powell is not part of the Trump legal team and is practicing law on her own:

The statement seems to have come out of the blue and surprised some on Twitter, like Joe Pags, who wants to hear more on this before opining about it:
I am in contact with the team to gather more information on this. The obvious result is left and right here making their own analysis of Sidney Powell and the Trump Legal Team. As always, I wait until I get verified fact before opining. I'm certainly surprised by this. https://t.co/FSJsVeQfx2

Matt Walsh is on the other side of the spectrum, saying that Team Trump is purposely distancing itself from Powell because her ‘conspiracy theories are insane’:
For anyone wondering if this is real. It’s real. And no it’s not part of some extravagant cinematic plot. Sidney Powell’s conspiracy theories are insane bullshit and the Trump camp has no plans to stand behind it. Period. That’s all. https://t.co/sKzzIgTdtQ

The DC Examiner has a write-up on this that explains Team Trump’s thinking:
Sources close to the president told the Washington Examiner neither the White House nor the Trump campaign have seen any of the evidence she claims to have related to assertions about voting machines switching millions of votes from President Trump to President-elect Joe Biden. They argued that her claims overshadowed what they see as legitimate concerns about the mail-in ballot process.
Even national security officials within the Trump administration said they have seen no evidence of Powell’s claims.
“Sidney has made these claims, but she has not shown, to my knowledge, evidence to support them — not to the campaign and not to the White House. … I don’t know anyone who has seen the evidence,” one senior administration official told the Washington Examiner. “Where is that evidence? The more she goes out there, the more it overshadows the legitimate problems. … The problem with this stuff is that you got so over-the-top, and you overshadow the illegitimate improper things that were done.”
So the thinking on Team Trump is more akin to what Walsh is saying. Apparently they don’t want their cases to be wrecked by the fallout from Powell’s claims if they go nowhere in court.
It’s interesting because Rudy just held a press conference with her a few days ago, and now the Trump campaign is seemingly disowning her. What a mess.
UPDATE: Sidney Powell has responded via General Flynn:
.@SidneyPowell1 has been suspended from Twitter for 12 hours. She understands the WH press release & agrees with it. She is staying the course to prove the massive deliberate election fraud that robbed #WeThePeople of our votes for President Trump & other Republican candidates.

UPDATE II: Here’s a little more from Sidney Powell:
“I understand today’s press release. I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes for Trump and other Republicans stolen by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be filing suit soon. The chips will fall where they may, and we will defend the foundations of this great Republic. #KrakenOnSteroids.”
Sidney Powell released this statement to @CBSNews and @kristincbrown after the Trump campaign said she's not on the team:
