Trump tweeted this morning that the Fake News Media is trying to confuse people, telling them that it’s really the governors’ decision whether to open up the states. But he says that’s just not true:
For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect….

….disaster, the Energy Industry will be strong again, far faster than currently anticipated. Thank you to all of those who worked with me on getting this very big business back on track, in particular Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Trump writes:
For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect. It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!
Perhaps Trump’s tweet has something to do with a CNN chyron that aired this morning:
Chyron on CNN earlier this hour: "TRUMP WANTS TO REOPEN ECONOMY, BUT GOVERNORS WILL DECIDE" https://t.co/qpmg3koEag

I understand that the federal government has set the guidelines that the states are following, but the governors are the ones who actually close and open a state based with executive orders. Apart from those federal guidelines I’m not sure what Trump is talking about here, especially considering this seems the opposite of federalism. And apparently I’m not alone:
This is 100% wrong and I have no idea why Trump would want to take responsibility for a decision that clearly isn't his.
The decision is strictly in the hands of individual Governors, but they can and should rely on federal guidance. https://t.co/uZpFCVMAqy

This is not only wildly incorrect from a constitutional perspective but it also means Trump has just taken responsibility for all of the economy-killing shutdowns across the country. Just a monumentally foolish thing to say. https://t.co/AdrVtIESME

The president's decisions matter in multiple ways large and small, but this is just not so. The states have police powers that the federal government cannot preempt. https://t.co/wovsKCwhdN
