Late last night Trump announced, via a statement from the White House, that troops would be withdrawing from Northern Syria and Turkey allowed to continue its conquest of the area:
Today, President Donald J. Trump spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey by telephone. Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria. The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial “Caliphate,” will no longer be in the immediate area.
The United States Government has pressed France, Germany, and other European nations, from which many captured ISIS fighters came, to take them back, but they did not want them and refused. The United States will not hold them for what could be many years and great cost to the United States taxpayer. Turkey will now be responsible for all ISIS fighters in the area captured over the past two years in the wake of the defeat of the territorial “Caliphate” by the United States.
Trump is now defending the decision, taking to Twitter to explain:
As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over…

….the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!

The Pentagon is claiming to have been blindsided by the news and even some of Trump’s allies are criticizing him for it:
This morning Lindsey Graham called the decision “impulsive” and said it had undone all the gains we’ve made in the area. Graham added that it will throw the region into chaos and that any remaining ISIS fighters probably feel like they have a new lease on life. He also just tweeted this:
* It is never wise to abandon an ally who has sacrificed on your behalf.
* It is never wise to repeat the mistakes of your predecessor.
* It is never wise to outsource American national security to Turkey or any other nation.

* Turkey does not have the capability to keep ISIS from re-emerging and their primary target is the Kurds – not ISIS.
* It would be unwise to believe otherwise.

The Obama-libertarian foreign policy does not make America safe.
If ignoring radical Islam made America safe, there would NOT have been a 9/11.

No matter what President Trump is saying about his decision, it is EXACTLY what President Obama did in Iraq with even more disastrous consequences for our national security.
Unlike President Obama, I hope President Trump will reassess and take sound military advice.

Graham isn’t the only one upset about this. Nikki Haley said we are leaving the Kurds to die:
We must always have the backs of our allies, if we expect them to have our back. The Kurds were instrumental in our successful fight against ISIS in Syria. Leaving them to die is a big mistake. #TurkeyIsNotOurFriend

And plenty of others feel the same way.
Turkey has been wanting the US to leave Syria, specifically Manbij, for a couple of years now and Trump has been in talks with Erdogan on this all year. Now it appears Erdogan has gotten the US out of the way so he can get rid of the Kurds in Northern Syria once and for all.
As we explained in January, the Kurds represent a threat to Erodgan’s new Ottoman Empire that he is resurrecting:
Even Middle East commentators know that Erdogan wants to eliminate the Kurds because he believes they represent a threat to the new-Ottoman caliphate he is resurrecting. One commentator says (translated from arabic) that Erdogan wants…
…to occupy the Syrian north and penetrate deep into the Kurdish places and eliminate them because they pose a danger to the new Caliphate state – or so Erdogan dreams…
He believes the US postponing our withdrawal is an obstacle to…
…the realization of the plan of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to destroy the Arab states and control the Middle East, and to hold tripartite alliances between Qatar, Iran and Turkey, to acquire the game cards in the region.
He needs these ‘cards’ to convince people that he is the chosen Caliph.
With the US out of the way, Erdogan can now take over the entirety of Northern Syria and then begin working his way further south. They’ve been talking about conquering Idlib as well, if they haven’t done it already, and who knows where they will stop. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if at some point Erdogan began moving troops toward Damascus, which is much closer to Israel.
