Just after 5PM, when The Squad was slated to begin their press conference, Trump tweeted once again “IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE!”, noting that we will never become a socialist or communist country:
We will never be a Socialist or Communist Country. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE! It is your choice, and your choice alone. This is about love for America. Certain people HATE our Country….

….They are anti-Israel, pro Al-Qaeda, and comment on the 9/11 attack, “some people did something.” Radical Left Democrats want Open Borders, which means drugs, crime, human trafficking, and much more….

….Detention facilities are not Concentration Camps! America has never been stronger than it is now – rebuilt Military, highest Stock Market EVER, lowest unemployment and more people working than ever before. Keep America Great!

After the press conference began, he then tweeted this out, seeming to explain his motive for the tweets:
The Dems were trying to distance themselves from the four “progressives,” but now they are forced to embrace them. That means they are endorsing Socialism, hate of Israel and the USA! Not good for the Democrats!

I’ve seen some on Twitter making this same kind of argument, that Trump forced Democrats to defend these radical socialist that are so unliked by the country and their party.
I don’t know if I agree. I think it was far better when Democrats were fighting each other and the focus was on this emerging split in the party, a split that is at the very heart of those running for president in the 2020 Democratic primary.
Trump didn’t unite the Democrats on policies, he united them against him, which is what they want. If they can’t unify on these extreme policies, they can unify in their hatred of Trump. It’s like the Muslim world, where the some of the different sects hate each other, but by golly they can all agree to unify when attacking Israel.
I really don’t see this as any victory, but rather as a fail on Trump’s part, at least as far as this strategy goes.
