Democrats have made clear that they are going to attack Trump in any way they can in order to impeach him or defeat him in next year’s elections.
Their latest salvo in this fishing expedition is a subpoena by the House Oversight Committee Chairman, Elijah Cummings, into Trump’s business and financial information.
Trump is now suing to block this subpoena:

The lawsuit states in the very beginning:
“The Democrat Party, with its newfound control of the US House of Representatives, has declared all-out political war against President Donald J. Trump. Subpoenas are their weapon of choice.”
As pointed out above, it also argues that Cummings’ subpoena has no legitimate legislative purpose.
