Trump gets a little GOP support for his “military parade” idea

As you’ve all read by now Trump wants a military parade to show both strength and appreciation for our military. Many are suggesting this is not a good idea, but Lindsey Graham came out today in support of a parade that honors our troops:

Now I should also point out that Graham is against having a parade that shows off hardware, as he stated earlier today:

“I don’t mind having a parade honoring the service and sacrifice of our military members. I’m not looking for a Soviet-style hardware display. That’s not who we are,” Graham told CNN. “It’s kind of cheesy. I think it shows weakness, quite frankly.”

The South Carolina senator said he supports a parade where Americans gather to thank and honor service members, as well as an event that includes children and pays homage to military families.

But Graham rejected the idea of an event that focuses solely on the military’s weapons and technology.

“The idea of saying thank you through a parade makes sense. The idea of showing muscle through a parade, I think, is counter to what we’re about and would actually be a sign of weakness, not strength,” he said. “Honoring the military through an annual parade, count me in. I just don’t want it to become about hardware. I want it to become about people.”

I should also note that Mattis was asked about this today in his White House press briefing and he said the Pentagon was preparing proposals to send to the White House:

I agree with Graham that we definitely shouldn’t do a parade like you’d see in Russia or N. Korea. Nope. But if we were going to make it solely about the troops, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. After all you can have all the badass hardware you like, but without good men and women to put it to use you’ve got nothing.
