With the news that the US is now using the island of Diego Garcia as an airbase in the war with Iran, the terrorist country revealed it has more capability than was known when they fired an IRBM (Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile) at the airbase.
Deigo Garcia is close to 4,000km away from Iran, meaning they can potentially hit targets some 2,400 miles away, which vastly increases their threat assessment.
The missiles were either intercepted or failed to hit their targets, but the news is they have hidden their ability to reach distances that may include all of Europe.
Here’s the news via WSJ:
Iran fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.-U.K. military base in the middle of the Indian Ocean, according to multiple U.S. officials. Neither of the missiles hit the base, but the move marked Iran’s first operational use of IRBMs and a significant attempt to reach far beyond the Middle East and threaten U.S. interests.
One of the missiles failed in flight, and a U.S. warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the other, according to two of the people. It couldn’t be determined if an interception was made, according to one of the officials.
IRBMs typically have a range of 3,000 to 5,500 kilometers, or 1,800 to 3,400 miles. This is why the US has to destroy everything in Iran before leaving. They cannot be allowed to have IRBMs.
