Next week’s cover from The New Yorker will depict Ernie and Bert as a gay couple in celebration of the Supreme Court rulings on DOMA and Prop. 8:
Ernie and Bert weren’t a gay couple at all, nor have they ever come out of the proverbial closet. They were ‘straight’ roommates in their fictional relationship and I hate that The New Yorker is potentially changing the nature of how children see these fictional characters. Ugh.
