We all know that both the left and Planned Parenthood deceive young girls every day into thinking that the life in their wombs isn’t really a life at all, but just a clump of cells that can be discarded. But that’s not the only lie they tell. I know, Shocker.
More recently the president of Planned Parenthood, Leana Wen, has been telling people that thousands of women died each year from illegal abortions in the years before Roe v Wade:
Before Roe v. Wade, thousands of women died every year — and because of extreme attacks on safe, legal abortion care, this could happen again right here in America. #WeWontGoBack https://t.co/9orqLaif0J
— Leana Wen, M.D. (@DrLeanaWen) April 24, 2019
She’s been repeating this all year and most recently just last week on Morning Joe.
But according the Washington Post her statements are completely untrue.
Here’s a quick video that explains why:
The video points out that Wen’s statement may have been true in the 1930s, but with the invention of antibiotics deaths declined drastically. To the point that by 1972 the number of women dying after having an illegal abortion was only 39.
In fact WAPO points out that a researcher who studied all of this suggested that even if Roe v Wade were overturned, women dying from illegal abortions would not skyrocket:
Stanley Henshaw, who from 1979 to 2013 researched abortion statistics at the Guttmacher Institute, which favors abortion rights, said he agreed with Tietze’s assessment in 1969.
“In the 1960s, the officially recorded number of deaths from illegal induced abortion was under 300 per year. While there were undoubtedly other unreported abortion deaths, it is unlikely that the actual number was over 1,000. The figure of 5,000 to 10,000 is reasonable for the 1930s, when there were probably more abortions and less effective treatment of complications,” he said. “In my opinion, if Roe v. Wade were overturned, women would turn to relatively safe medications that can be purchased over the Internet. There would be some deaths but probably not as many as there were in the 1960s.”
At the end of the day I know none of this is really the point. But this just goes to show how these people lie in order to make their case for the murdering of the unborn and how many will buy it whole cloth.
So I applaud the Washington Post for being objective in pointing out these lies.
