Two CNBC hosts schooled Kamala’s economic advisor Bharat Rama as he was defending the ‘unrealized gains’ tax put forward by Kamala.
This segment starts off with host Becky Quick telling Rama that taxing unrealized gains doesn’t seem fair in any way.
Rama hit back claiming it’s the same thing as paying property tax, but neither Becky nor Joe Kernen were having any of that.
Becky was quick to point out that property tax is a ‘use’ tax that funds services in a community that people use. When Rama tried to suggest Kamala’s unrealized gains tax would be a ‘use’ tax, in that it would fund new opportunities for people, Becky countered that the people funding these opportunities wouldn’t be using them and thus it is not a ‘use’ tax.
Joe Kernen pointed out that the ‘property tax’ excuse is what the advocates of this unrealized gains tax always say and pointed out that it’s unconstitutional and the founders never intended something like this. He then pointed out that it would never happen in their lifetime.
