Crazy video and photos out of France today as the protests over high fuel prices turned violent. Cops brought out the water cannons and tear gas. No grape shot, yet, but we’ll see what happens.
Over 5,000 protesters converged on the Champs-Elysées. And you can see in the videos and photos below it got out of hand fast. The precipitating factor is taxes on diesel, but the riots obviously represent a larger expression of the national id, a primal scream against the consequences of Macron’s liberal government. People have to pay more, they live less safely, the face of the nation is changing under mass immigration and authorities petrified of being labeled racist.
But mainly it’s the money concerns, because that’s honestly where most people have their breaking point. And I do mean “most”, as it turns out that the protesters have over 80% approval in the nation, much higher (three times more) than Macron himself.
