When walking up to the podium at the University of South Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis saw high school students who would be standing behind wearing masks and his response is awesome:
“You do not have to wear those masks. I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we gotta stop with this Covid theater. So if you wanna wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous.”
NEW: @GovRonDeSantis annoyed with USF students—

Correction: I believe these students are in high school.
Hillsborough School District says some of their kids from Middleton HS in Tampa were involved in the presser, so I believe these are those students.

I love how he called it COVID theater. And as you can see, most of the students took off their masks.
The media in Florida is trying to spin this against DeSantis, claiming he SCOLDED the students:
‘This is ridiculous’: DeSantis scolds students for wearing face masks during USF visit
Gov. Ron DeSantis made his frustration with face masks known when he visited Tampa for a press conference Wednesday morning.
DeSantis was at the University of South Florida to announce funding for cybersecurity education. Before taking the podium to address the audience, the governor scolded a group of students behind him who were wearing face masks.
“You do not have to wear those masks,” Gov. DeSantis said. “I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater. So if you want to wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous.”
He didn’t scold them at all. That’s total bunk. DeSantis was clearly frustrated, but not at the students. He was frustrated at those making these students think they need to wear masks when it’s nothing but theater.
Heck, when he told them they didn’t have to wear them, they laughed. Doesn’t sound like the students who were ‘scolded’ to me.
At the end DeSantis told them if that they could wear them if they wanted to, but strongly suggested otherwise. And I applaud him for doing it.
As a bonus, here’s DeSantis responding to Biden’s SOTU, saying he fell asleep:
