Both Biden and Obama had promised to renegotiate NAFTA, as Fake Jake Tapper pointed out in a longer version of the interview. As this clip begins Tapper is pushing Biden on the USMCA saying “[Trump] renegotiated NAFTA and you didn’t, is the point.”
Biden responded by blaming the fact that he and Obama had a Republican Congress that wouldn’t go along with them on any renegotiation. Tapper just glares at Biden for a second and then asks “But doesn’t he deserve some credit for that? It’s better, The USMCA is better than NAFTA.”
That’s when Joe Biden makes the next Trump ad, saying “It is better than NAFTA…” Boom! You know Biden’s entire campaign just cringed when he said that.
Biden went on to claim he was ‘against’ NAFTA, even though he voted for it, and blamed Bush for changing the deal or something. But that’s a garbage answer because Trump, who had a Democrat Congress full of haters who tried to impeach him, still found a way to negotiate with them to agree to the USMCA. Biden’s answer makes clear that he doesn’t have what it takes to work with the other side.
Here’s a much longer clip from CNN if you’d like to watch it:
