Both Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell defended Trump today against accusations of racism from Democrats and media everywhere.
First up, Kevin McCarthy:
And here’s Mitch McConnell:
“The president is not a racist,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says. “I’m a big fan of legal immigration,” he adds when asked if President Trump telling the Democratic congresswomen of color to “go back” to their countries is a racist remark https://t.co/Waw5Kw26tG pic.twitter.com/nZTtBhFufI

Personally, I liked how much clearer McCarthy was in explicitly saying that Trump’s tweets were not racist and outlining that what Trump was really talking about was ideology, not racism.
McConnell certainly chose not to go after Trump directly. But indirectly he suggested that Trump, along with everyone else, needs to tone down their rhetoric. When asked if he thought Trump’s tweets were racist, he was still indirect, saying that Trump is not a racist.
Which do you like better?
