WATCH: Larry Kudlow adds CRUCIAL context around Trump’s threat to close the border

CNBC caught up with Larry Kudlow today and asked him about Trump’s considerations on closing the border.

Kudlow, who noted that he full agrees with Trump on immigration, said something interesting about Trump’s plan to close the border.

Watch:

Kudlow points out that they are working on a way to close the border but allow trucks carrying freight to continue to get through:

We’re watching it and looking for ways to allow the freight passage – some people call it truck roads. And there are ways you can do that which would ameliorate the breakdown in supply chains.

The president’s positions on border security are well known. I support them fully. The numbers – 100,000 immigrants a month – it’s crazy.

The question is can we deal with that and not have any economic damage. And I think the answer is that we can, and people are looking at different options. Particularly if you can keep those fright lanes, those truck lanes open. That’s probably the nub of it.

When asked about the people who cross the border for work as well as the tourists, Kudlow was much less optimistic, suggesting that would be difficult.

What you want to do is stop the emergency and the breakdown and you wanna try and limit whatever harm that does. It’s a very difficult task; I think it’s doable. The president will make a final decision on these things; he hasn’t yet. So we’re looking at all those options.

So regardless of what you might hear from Democrats and the media, it does sound like they are trying to mitigate some of the economic damage done by closing the border.

We’ll see if they are successful when Trump decides to go through with his border shutdown.
