Mitch McConnell not only referred to the January 6th riot as a ‘violent insurrection’, but also condemned the RNC for censuring Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger:

How many times do I have to say that what happened on January 6th, 2021 was not an violent insurrection? How many times??? Nobody had guns. Nobody took hostages. Nobody tried to take over the building. It was simply a riot in and around the Capitol building and, as with all riots, there was property damage. It was an unfortunate stain on the nation’s capital but it was not a violent insurrection.
Also, when it comes to McConnell’s comment regarding Cheney and Kinzinger, I’m sure none of you are surprised. McConnell can be a good conservative when he wants to be, but we all know that much of the time he’s a middle-of-the-road RINO type who fights conservatives harder than he does Democrats. So no, I’m not shocked that he condemned the RNC for their courageous actions drawing a line in the sand when it comes to Cheney and Kinzinger. That’s what I would expected from him.
Even so, I don’t like it. I’m glad the RNC censured them because they are being very dishonest to blame Trump for the riot. It was clear to everyone with any ounce of common sense that he wasn’t responsible for it. For Cheney and Kinzinger to vote to impeach Trump because of it and then to join and legitimize a political hack committee created by Nancy Pelosi herself – well it demanded something. McCarthy may be too weak to do anything about it but at least the RNC answered with something. Good on them.
