Mitch McConnell just took to the floor of the Senate to defend his decision to allow the Senate to move forward with Trump’s soon-to-be announced Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Ginsburg:
McConnell starts by confirming that Trump’s potential nominee will get a vote in the Senate.
He then proceeded, once again, to properly explain and defend his decision in 2016 not to move forward with Merrick Garland’s nomination, noting that you’d have to go all the way back to the 1800s to find a Senate which confirmed a president’s nomination in an election year when the parties were different.
In doing so he ripped his Democratic colleagues who want to obstruct this new nomination, noting they are the same ones who tried every dirty trick they could to obstruct both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. And that’s putting it lightly.
He also gave precedents for shorter confirmation processes, suggesting they could easily nominate someone in time for the election.
