WATCH: McConnell sticks up for Burr over his subpoena of Donald Trump Jr.

With many Republicans coming out against the subpoena of Donald Trump Jr by Richard Burr’s Intelligence Committee, I wondered how McConnell would respond to it. It wasn’t what many were hoping for…

McConnell clearly didn’t want to call out Burr over this subpoena like other Republican Senators are doing.

He called it a ‘blip’, noting that Burr’s committee has already said it won’t contradict the Mueller report.

He really played it off as no big deal, kinda squishy like.

  1. I tweeted Mitch last night before Sean came on TV and told him if he wants to investigate something to investigate the connections between Sen. Mark Warner, Adam Waldman, and Oleg Deripaska. Definitely something shady there.

    1. Agree 100%. Only GOPe is foolish enough to keep this alive so Dems can use it as a sledge hammer in 2020 on everybody running. Here in NC Tillis is up for reelection so I’m not surprised he spoke against this.

  2. I wonder if this is simply a “negotiation” by McConnell in another form.–putting pressure on Trump to get him to bend or cave on something.

    1. It is interesting that the day after Mitch gives his floor speech saying case closed, Burr announces this Don Jr. Nonsense. Remember nothing happens in the senate without Mitch, but he likes to work behind the scenes like a coward. If it is just a blip and they won’t overturn the report, why give the Dems talking points and waste more taxpayer money and time instead of working on what they are paid for.

    2. BINGO!! Unfortunately for the USA, it would appear that you are quite correct.

Tragically, by his past actions, RINO McConnell’s objective seems to be doing whatever he views as benefiting & further empowering himself.

  3. Right Mitch…We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you and your Progressive Trump haters!

  5. Burr’s committee may say that they won’t contradict the Mueller report but that’s not what this is about anyways, it’s about getting Don Jr up there and grilling him left right and center to see if he says anything differently. Then the Democrats and the mass media will make that the new story for the next month to keep this Russia BS going….Don Jr IF he shows up, should plead the 5th on every single thing no matter what it is. Let the record stand from his previous 26 hours of testimony and what’s in the Mueller report.

  6. McConnell is behind the Burr subpoena. It’s not about Don Jr., it’s about China. McConnell’s wife’s family is a major shipping company out of China. Tariffs will hurt their business and the flow of money from the family to McConnell.

  8. Senator Waffle does it again. On one hand he emphatically states that, “It’s over.” Then he lets Burr run with this subpoena when he could clearly exert power to make him withdraw it.

This subpoena is nothing but a perjury trap and an attempt by the TDS’ers to keep this going.

  12. It is hard to believe that Burr would issue the subpoena of Donald Trump Jr without McConnell’s prior knowledge & approval, especially after watching RINO McConnell’s limp response to Sean’s question about it. All of this is disturbing, but unfortunately, not greatly surprising.

  13. Wondering how much longer the republicans will tolerate this moron as the senate leader.

    1. For as long as he keeps getting conservative judges and justices confirmed, which is a while yet.

    2. if we are not careful and more aggressive the Democrats may do it for us in 2020.If we lose the Senate,McConnell will be working with Schumer like he always does.

  15. Imo, ALL that’s wrong with the republican party in one turtle-like person. Mitch is a clown.

  16. Turtles are close friends with RINOs.

McConnell is a damned disgrace – even before this cowardly act. He has no business being in our government other than to squelch anything positive the republicans might want to do.

  17. Oh, Turtle, when will you ever do your job? It is bad enough that demonrats are unable to move forward, that all they do is obstruct and RESIST! the will of the American people, doing all that they can to thwart their one world order, but any in the GOP who do this, especially the leader of the Senate, is too much. Kentucky, PLEASE vote out this lifelong hack and vote for young, actual conservative man or woman, who has served in our nation’s military, maybe is NOT just another feckless lawyer, who can actually do what is right for our nation.

  18. McChinless is “…kinda squishy like.”? Wow, what a stunning new revelation.

    1. @dr-strangelove

Most turtles are squishy when out of the shell. But you’re right, we’ve come to the place where we EXPECT McConnell to be a corrupt coward, for Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski to vote with The Left and for Roberts to screw over America in the SCOTUS (Eew, that sounds naughty). When republicans stand for nothing, they’ll fall for anything… and America usually suffers. Mitch is a disgrace.

  19. I suspect Burr has some reason to get Don Jr. to corroborate something. Exactly what, remains to be seen.

    1. Maybe it will blow up the demonrats and destroy their narrative. Otherwise, comparing something Don, Jr. said against testimony of a known lying sack of you-know-what is a pointless waste of time and I do not like this at all.

    1. @bigsir74

Sean wants to keep his ratings, so he’s no longer interested in the truth or fighting the good fight. Play softball with the RINOs and flourish. UGH!

      1. Supposedly we are fighting the swamp, then he meekly accepts McConnell’s backing of Burr, when every other Republican is ready to throw Burr out of the Chair. How could McConnell tell Sean nothing is going to change the results. How can this be ,unless this is the Swamp at work again. Both parties working against the President and keeping this issue alive for another 5-6 months.

  25. Does this have anything to do with the imminent release of the Huber and then the Horowitz reports?

Is this fly swat nothing burger in process terms with Democrats trying to steal some tiny headlines because the Democrats are going to be facing a huge meltdown on major issues very shortly.

Does McConnell know what will be in both Huber and Horowitz reports? Otherwise this fly swat makes no sense.

  26. I don’t care for Mitch one bit. He’s one of the people I was talking about in another thread when I said Trump was actually more to the right than a lot of the GOP. That being said, I didn’t hear in that clip where “McConnell sticks up for Burr….” As usual Mitch is still “don’t rock the boat” in his actions and comments.

    1. Nice post Frisky,I have been say similar comments. The Chao family is heavily involved in the Chinese Shipping. I read they even own a couple of liners.

    2. He probably wants to but his staff warns him that McConnell with attack…not that most Americans like Turtle at all….the fear that is in WADC in trying to keep the swamp filthy is ridiculous. Good change is great for America!

  27. The ONLY reason for this is to try and catch Don Jr. in a perjury trap at the behest of Democrats who hope to harass and attack Trump anywhere it might hurt.

Burr is just another crappy Democrat in Republican clothing who is happy to carry their water out of a deluded sense of “fairness” or because they strong-armed him with threats to give him the Kavanaugh/Trump treatment.

    1. @dr-johnny-fever Did you know Mitch’s campaign is selling T shirts with “Cocaine Mitch”? 😆 😆

  28. Well, he came out of his shell. He doesn’t say anything strong about it one way or the other. He’s allowing it to go on. If it’s over and questioning Jr is expected to change nothing, what’s up? Not sure what the game is. I don’t trust him.
