At Cornell University’s Institute of Politics & Global Affairs today, Nancy Pelosi talked about waging war against Trump because she said “we cannot accept a second term for Donald Trump”:
Here’s what she said:
“We have to make sure that the Constitution wins the next presidential election. We can’t be worrying about how long is this going to take or that – it’ll take as long as it does. And we will press the case so that in the court of public opinion, people will know what is right.
But we cannot accept a second term for Donald Trump if we are going to be faithful to our democracy and to the Constitution of the United States. And that is just a fact.
So we’ll have to operate on many fronts. We’ll have to operate in the Congress, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion. And we must win the next election.”
First of all when she says “we have to make sure that the Constitution wins the next presidential election”, I don’t know what the heck she’s talking about. If it’s about the 2016 election, Trump didn’t steal the election from Hillary. He didn’t collude with Russia to win. He was elected fairly and constitutionally by the people of this country. And that’s a fact, Nancy!
Secondly, isn’t absurdly ironic that Nancy suddenly cares about the Constitution when she and Obama crapped all over it for the eight years of his presidency?
And lastly, I remember the good old days when saying something like this about a president meant you were racist or full of hatred, at least to Democrats.
For example, remember when Mitch McConnell said “my number one priority is making sure president Obama’s a one-term president”? He was lambasted for it in the media. His comments were called “stunning, disgraceful, disgusting” by Democrats. It was widely seen in media circles as a terrible thing to say about the first black president.
Yet now that Trump is president it’s totally ok – even warranted – for Pelosi to say nearly the same thing about him as McConnell said about Obama. Actually her comments are even worse! But her hyper-partisanship will be ignored and she will be applauded for her war against the next Trump presidency.
