Last night Rand Paul called on the media at a Trump rally to do their job and report the name of the so-called whistleblower. So today, of course, he’s being told by the media that it’s illegal to do that – even though it’s not:

Rand Paul tells this reporter that the whistleblower statute only forbids the Inspector General from revealing the name of the whistleblower. He even cites the NY Times, saying that they also admit that no one else is under any legal obligation to keep the whistleblower’s name a secret.
Further, here’s Lindsey Graham telling reporters that the whistleblower statute was only meant to protect the whistleblower from retribution and that anonymity can’t be used in civil or criminal proceedings:

Lastly, here’s Rand Paul again saying the Constitution is clear, via the 6th amendment, that someone should have the right to confront their accuser:
Q: "You don't think this is dangerous to actually out the whistleblower? I mean the president has said that he's treasonous and a traitor."
Sen. Rand Paul: "I think that the 6th Amendment of the Constitution is very clear &… you should have the right to confront your accuser." pic.twitter.com/2fC0lcdaAF
