Democratic Senator Chris Murphy is accusing Trump of assassinating Soleimani “without congressional authorization” and potentially starting a massive regional war in the Middle East:
Soleimani was an enemy of the United States. That’s not a question.
The question is this – as reports suggest, did America just assassinate, without any congressional authorization, the second most powerful person in Iran, knowingly setting off a potential massive regional war?

Retired Maj. Gen. James Marks was asked about Murphy’s comments today on CNN and his initial response was to tell Murphy to shut up, because he’s wrong (skip to 1:45 if you don’t want to watch the whole thing):
Retired Maj. Gen. James Marks emphasized the importance of killing Iran's Qasem Soleimani and criticized Sen. Chris Murphy for questioning an airstrike without congressional approval: "What I would say to Sen. Murphy is 'why don't you just be quiet?'"https://t.co/0pnqHbxX5Z pic.twitter.com/USaoFO1smS

Marks makes the point that maybe the world is a little more dangerous today, but when has it not been dangerous? He says Iran is not known for showing self-restraint and and that the US is a target of Iran as a matter of routine.
Marks also says the he doesn’t believe that the assassination of Soleimani was in response to the attack on the embassy, other than the fact that Soleimani had showed up to see how the attack on the embassy was progressing. Rather, he believes that the US had a folder full of intelligence on Soleimani and when this opportunity arose they took it.
Lindsey Graham said this morning on Fox News that he was briefed on the attack a few days ago when he was down in Florida:
Lindsey Graham told Fox & Friends he was "briefed about the potential operation when he was down in Florida" visiting Trump at Mar-a-Lago, then proposed military strikes in Iran itself pic.twitter.com/0uZz5ttZY2

That would have likely been on Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, when Graham tweeted this out, which was the day when Iran’s militias began attacking the embassy:
Just had a very good meeting with President @realDonaldTrump and his team regarding the situation in Iraq.
President Trump is determined to protect American personnel and expects our Iraqi partners to step up to the plate. No more Benghazis.
