A judge just essentially asked a Dallas hair salon owner to admit she was wrong for defying the governor’s orders and she could avoid jail time. But the salon owner, Shelley Luther, came back with an epic response:
The judge told Shelley Luther she
could avoid jail time if she apologized, admitted she was wrong, and agreed to close her hair salon until it was allowed to open. This is her response…@CBSDFW pic.twitter.com/1phdNUsLme

After explaining that she has “much respect” for the court and the laws governing her, Luther told the judge “I have to disagree with you sir when you say that I’m selfish. Because feeding my kids is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry because they’d rather feed their kids. So, sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision but I am not going to shut the salon.”
Boom! What a great response to the judge. It’s only a shame that he wasn’t swayed by it:
BREAKING: Shelley Luther, a Dallas hair salon owner who opened in violation of the governor’s executive order, sentenced to 7 days in jail for civil / criminal contempt of court and fined $7,000. @CBSDFW

Correction:
The amount of the fine is $3500 and growing.
$500/ day for the 7 days the salon was open.
$500/ per day for every day it remains open through Friday, when the governor has said all salons may open.

Dang. In addition to the 7 days in jail, it looks like Luther will have to pay upwards of #5500 unless she closes the salon this week. I would be willing to bet you money that someone’s going to start a fundraiser for her if the haven’t already.
