WATCH: Ted Cruz calls out Lebron James for “kissing up to Chinese communists and tyrants”

TMZ caught up with Ted Cruz at the airport and asked him Lebron’s comments criticizing Daryl Morey over his tweet supporting freedom in Hong Kong. And he wasn’t shy at all in calling out Lebron for selling out just to make a few more bucks on his Nike deal.

Cruz says that Lebron is a “hell of a player”, but that it seems he’s more interested in both he (Nike deal) and the NBA making money. He adds that “kissing up to Chinese communists and tyrants and apologizing for murderers, that’s not a good look for the NBA.”.

“There’s a long tradition of athletes being engaged in politics,” Cruz notes. “I don’t have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is when they don’t know what they’re talking about and they end up defending tyrants – that’s not a good look.”

As far as advice he’d give Lebron, Cruz says “you shouldn’t be willing to sell out freedom just because you want to make a few more bucks on sneaker sales.”
