Here’s more:
AXIOS – President Trump announced Tuesday that he is issuing an executive order that will temporarily suspend some kinds of immigration to the U.S. for 60 days.
The order will only apply to individuals seeking a permanent residency. “In other words, those receiving green cards,” Trump said. It will not apply to those entering the U.S. on a temporary basis.
After the 60-day period, the administration will reevaluate whether to extend or modify the order.
“By pausing immigration, we will help unemployed Americans be first in line for jobs as America reopens. So important,” Trump said Tuesday.
“It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American worker, take care of the American worker.”
Trump was asked by a reporter if this applied to farmers, since they use so many immigrant workers. Trump said it will not.
Michelle Malkin was not happy with the fact that Trump is exempting temporary visas, however, saying that big business has gotten its way. She’s calling on people to melt the White House phone lines:
I called it last night. President Trump now admits massive #s of temporary visa holders will be exempt from #immigrationban to appease Big Ag/Big Biz/Deep State/Silicon Valley. Time to PUSH BACK against Kusher/#OpenBordersInc & force change. Melt WH phone lines 202 224 3121. pic.twitter.com/LXdxF85nKf
