WATCH: Trump forces Mulvaney out over coughing during interview…

In the interview that Trump did with George Stephanopoulos in the Oval Office, there was a behind the scenes moment that ABC News posted where Trump became slightly agitated that Mulvaney had interrupted his interview with a cough and made him leave the room:

ABC News has posted these clips from the full interview they aired last night and I thought you might enjoy watching them:

  1. I see the tru-cons are here to save us from the horrific mistake of trying to survive the culture war. Aren’t we lucky.

  2. As far as the cough goes, I think he was just wanting a clean and smooth bit for what gets aired. Sort of like when the director says “cut”. Right after that they jolted the camera a little bit after Trump had already started talking, so he started over on his comment. He’s wanting to give them good sections to air and cut out the bad. This is nothing and it wasn’t rude.

  3. I thought the “story” here was Trump saying, “I hope they get it, because it’s a fantastic financial statement…” Both of these are benign and sort of ridiculous.

  4. And this is worthy of revealing because? The constant nit-pickery nonsense is driving me up a wall.

    1. Honestly I just thought it was a rare behind-the-scenes moment that people might enjoy seeing. It wasn’t a riff against the president in my opinion.

      1. I did sort of take it as a way of showing Trump being petty but mostly I didn’t care. But I still clicked on the post and commented so that makes me look like a hypocrite doesn’t it?

      1. Nah leave it up. After all I wasn’t so high-minded that I didn’t click on it so who am I to judge?

    2. Good morning @kenoshamarge I rather hear things straight from their own mouths. That includes all the candidates on the D side which I hope we can get a feed here when those debates start.

      1. And was in such a big hurry to flap my yap I neglected to say good morning back to you Ruthie. I hope you’re having a good day. 😀

      2. I want to hear something of substance not this continual monkey poo throwing nonsense. But we’re talking politicians so substance isn’t something they do well.

From what I’ve heard from the many Dem candidates, and I mean from them not what someone else says about them – they have nothing “new” to add to the mix except good old Joe Biden who promises to cure cancer. That’s a whole new level of campaign promise isn’t it? But no problem we’re used to them not keeping their promises aren’t we?

  5. If Mulvaney was the Idiot who authorized Stephanopoulos to interview The President while standing over the President should not have been told to leave the room he should have fired his butt on the spot.

  6. “…keep it going…demean and hurt…so they can try and when the next election”…BINGO…

    1. I don’t ever love a politician. I may “like” a few and even respect even fewer. But love one? UGH!

I’ve never liked Trump. I didn’t watch his stupid show and never listened when he was on some political show. Usually calling in. I stopped watching Neil Cavuto because of his frequent call-ins from Trump.

I like some of what Trump does. Which amazes me. And I often dislike what he does. But I always think that much as I dislike him – he’s so much better than the Hillary Hag that I regret not voting for him.

  7. I saw that earlier. On the face of it, it sounds petty, but I think Trump got pissed that the coughing came at the exact point where he was praising his financial statement. You know how when someone says something and someone else wants to point out it’s not true, so they cough–I’m guess that’s what was going in his mind? But Trump should have known the leftist media won’t give him a clean redo like they probably did with BO many times!

  8. Meh…he just wanted clean sound on what he thought was a great answer. Seems like nothing about nothing during an interview by a radical leftist hack nobody.

  9. This deceiving click-baity title makes it look like Trump kicked Mulvaney out of the Administration for coughing, not that he merely had him leave the room. Sheesh.

  10. I am confused a bit; did Trump fire Mulvaney over his coughing? I never watch MSM videos (they often contain viruses), so if he fired him on camera, I will not see it, but the headline is, “Trump forces Mulvaney out over coughing during interview.” There is nothing written below that to suggest Trump “forced Mulvaney out” and I see nothing about his firing through other websites….what does this mean, exactly?

    1. No he just asked him to leave the room. And he asked for a do-over after already answering the question. (That seemed like the weird part to me. A do-over in what is supposed to be an interview?)

      1. @t_ump It’s an outtake. Trump wanted the aired version to be nice and clean.

What I find odd is that CNN aired the outtake in order to make Trump look bad. Trump clearly didn’t want that portion to be included in the interview and they put it on air anyway. They agreed to do it over and then stabbed him in the back with it. Why have we never seen this done to the likes of Obama?

        1. I wouldn’t call it stabbing him in the back. But they definitely took the opportunity to show the clip, knowing he doesn’t look great in it. Surely no one is surprised by this, are they?

I honestly don’t get why he would expect a “do-over” in an interview? Obviously, his interests are different that ABC’s. He wants to be presented in the best possible light. In contrast, ABC’s interest should be to present him as accurately as possible –this includes not just providing his canned answers, but also showing how he presents himself. Otherwise interviews would all be in writing.

Which do you think provides more insight as to who Trump really is and what he really believes? The version including what you call the “outtake” or the second response only?

As for Obama, I honestly can’t say whether or not he was treated similarly. Did Obama ask for do-overs when answering interview questions?

  11. I’m still a little confused as to why Trump gave the little Clinton war room hack so much access. Oh well.

    1. Man, oh, man would I have loved to see that! I really wanted to see Cruz debate and destroy Hillary. Oh well. Maybe Cruz will get the chance to destroy the Dem in 2024!

    2. I agree completely, in fact, I would no longer do the conventional press conferences, opting instead for targeted meetings with a few serious journalists, if there are any.

Trump should also schedule periodic Addresses to the Nation.

    3. @wolfsbane Ted Cruz has fallen mightily since he stepped into the political ring with the fake Mexican Frances (beto) O’Rourke. Matter of fact Ted Cruz isn’t in the top five, or top ten, not even in the top 15 in conservative voting. He’s fallen into rino status at a whopping 80% in conservative voting.

I don’t know man,… but it seems like old Teddy Cruz has made a hard left turn. Now I know you will get upset with me for posting the truth and you will call me names like cult 45 or whatever you guys call Trump supporters today but I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news…..Ted Cruz isn’t a conservative, he’s not even a republican anymore. Hell he’s border line rino with a conservative voting record of 80%.

Ted Cruz’s voting record speak for what the man believes in and at 80% he doesn’t believe in conservative views. He more inline with the rinos.

      1. Trump speaks with his body language; not the words that come out of his mouth.

Turn the sound off and you really see what his message is. The US alpha male is back. It was so obvious during the debates. How did you miss it?

Surprisingly the only Democrat body language threat to Trump is Elizabeth Warren – she is all fire and brimstone in her body language.

        1. “Trump speaks with his body language; not the words that come out of his mouth.

Turn the sound off and you really see what his message is.”

This is the funniest thing I’ve read in a while. Thanks!

    4. Ahh yes. Anyone who supports Trump is in a cult II bet you would probably support an establishment hack for President. You should go have your TDS checked out.

  12. Breaking news: Gloria Vanderbilt has passed away at 95. In respect, I will refrain from dissing Anderson Cooper for at least 10 minutes.

    1. I thought she had been dead for at least 20 years. She must have lived a secluded life in her later years.

  13. I remember all those times the propaganda machine showed all those Obama outtakes. What an effing hoot those were………

    1. @ryan-o I’d like to see 0’s gag reel. Not the one that would make me gag, the funny one.

  14. Nothing wrong with that. POTUS is speaking and it deserves the respect of being clearly heard.

  15. Trump is a known germophobe. This was well known before 2016. Story is a nothing burger.

As for Obama, I honestly can’t say whether or not he was treated similarly. Did Obama ask for do-overs when answering interview questions?

          1. @t_ump They had no reason to show portions of the interview that weren’t part of the aired version. This portion was edited out. It’s not a movie so there should be no reason why they would do a “behind the scenes” to rile up the public. Oh…yes there is…to rile up the public and make Trump look bad! When is the last time you’ve seen them do a “behind the scenes” for an interview?

It doesn’t say anything about the “real” Trump. It only says he was asking them to start over so they could get a better clip. It does not say that he kicks people out for coughing while he’s talking.

If you really believe the MSM never did positive edits for Obama I’ve got an ocean to sell you in the middle of the Sahara Desert. This was clearly a way to get it out there despite having a better take. I guarantee you they wouldn’t have done this to Obama.

            1. Of course they had a reason. They are a news organization, and this is obviously newsworthy. Too click-bait/gossipy for my tastes, but how Trump treats his underlings and how he tries to control the content is newsworthy nonetheless.

And they didn’t make Trump look bad. Trump made Trump look bad. They just showed him making himself look bad. And if they have other such tapes they’ll slowly bring those out as well.

              1. @t_ump This is newsworthy? Trump asking to start a question over so they have a clean run isn’t newsworthy. The only reason you find it newsworthy is because you are taking a lot more out of it than is there. Somehow you see this as showing who the man really is. Really? Beyond showing he wants his interview to look good on him is all it does. It does not show that he treats his aids like this on an everyday basis. YOU are making the inference, and its’a farce.

The only reason Trump looks bad is because ABC knew there would be people like you chomping at the bit to make a huge deal out of nothing.

                1. I’m not making it any sort of deal. I don’t care about it one way or another. But it is newsworthy. If people are interested in it, then it is newsworthy. Believe it or not, you aren’t the arbiter of such things, nor am I.

If you really don’t think Trump looks bad, then what’s your issue with releasing it?

                2. @t_ump I didn’t say he doesn’t look bad. I said he looks bad for the wrong reason…because people are taking off with it and making a much bigger deal of it than it is. It’s only newsworthy because they know there are people waiting to pounce on it. That doesn’t make it newsworthy as a news story. It’s low hanging fruit so people like you can punch it like a pinata.

If they were filming a meeting and Trump did something like this just because he doesn’t like a simple cough interrupting the meeting it would be a different story….that is, unless the cough was loud and repeatedly interrupting the meeting. He only did this for the recording value.

                3. That’s your take, but others disagree. And I don’t see any difference between this and a meeting. It is an on camera interview. The idea of stopping and doing “clean takes” in such a situation brings an air of falsity. Ever see Broadcast News? It makes it feel like the William Hurt crying scene. That’s my take.

But that’s the way news works. People don’t always agree on the significance.

                4. @t_ump The difference is obvious. When you’re recording something that you want to be perfect so it has a good reflection on you it typically involves edits. Trump just tried to be a part of determining what should be edited out and redone.

If he was in a meeting it would be live action that is subject to edits but they don’t ask the camera crew to “cut” and do it again. His interaction is with the others involved in the meeting, not with the press…which is essentially us.

Whether Trump should have done it or not is debatable, but in no way does it reflect on what he does in his everyday interactions.

We never would have known about it if ABC didn’t throw it out like live bait. The only “falsity” it could possibly bring is that it didn’t go as smooth and perfect as the retake. His answer was exactly the same. He didn’t ask for a reset in order to change his answer. I would have viewed that as fair game, but that’s not what happened.

                5. When you’re recording something that you want to be perfect so it has a good reflection on you it typically involves edits.

ABC’s job is not to make Trump look good. ABC’s job is to accurately portray him. They did that. How hard is that to understand?

Trump just tried to be a part of determining what should be edited out and redone.

Of course he did. That is what he always tries to do. That is part of the story here. But that is NOT how interviews work. He wasn’t in control.

                6. @t_ump When did I say it was ABC’s job to make Trump look good? They went out of their way to make sure he looked bad.

That’s what he always tries to do? You are so full of sh*t it’s ridiculous. We have never seen him do this before so you can stop the lying now.

How do you know how the interviews work when they are interviewing the President? Have you been there watching? They have never showed extras like this before so we have no idea if they’ve allowed anyone else to have them ask a question again so a cough isn’t in the aired interview. It’s unbelievable how you make such a huge encompassing judgement on his character just because he wanted a cough removed from the recording. It’s a whole lot of TDS being displayed.

                7. Calling me out and calling me names because I dare disagree? Like I said you are losing it.

That you don’t think we’ve ever seen Trump try to control a narrative before suggests we have nothing to talk about.

                8. @t_ump I didn’t call you any names. I said you have TDS. I apologize for going that far but it’s how I see it.

Controlling the narrative is not what is going on here and not what the issue is. There’s no doubt that he wants to control the narrative but that’s not a bad thing. That’s politics. Both parties do it and it’s normal. You think he should let the left control the narrative? Or the media? Half of politics is controlling the narrative and it has been done throughout history. It’s not a Trump thing and it’s not unethical.

Wanting his interview to go smoothly is not controlling the narrative.

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree.

                9. I guess calling me “full of sh*t” isn’t technically calling me a name, but the point remains. You are obviously too wound up to discuss this reasonably and without lashing out.

You acknowledged that is trying to be part of the editing process and wants to decide what gets shown and what doesn’t. That’s trying to control the narrative. He tried, but ABC didn’t go for it. How you fault ABC for this is beyond me.

                10. @t_ump Aww….come on….”full of sh*t” isn’t name calling. It’s just my way of saying your argument is ridiculous…IMO.

I’m not wound up, and it’s not controlling the narrative just to have them re-film the question and the answer. It’s the same question he didn’t choose and it’s the same answer he started to give before he asked to re-shoot it. He didn’t change anything or tell them what to ask.

I don’t fault ABC for Trump asking to have them redo it so it doesn’t have a cough in it. I fault them for being so petty throwing it out there as low hanging fruit when there was no reason to do so other than to broadside Trump.

          1. I am sure their circular firing squad will be amusing. Although I suspect the media will play it down and not repeat every attack over and over again as they did with the Republicans.

I saw a great joke about the frontrunners:

Iowa democratic voters were polled about their presidential candidate preference for the 2020 election recently. Wouldn’t you know, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are lapping the entire field. It appears that the Democratic Party’s strategy for getting rid of old white men is to run them to death.
