Trump today released a video promising to end birthright citizenship if re-elected president. He plans to do it via executive order, letting all federal agencies know of the ‘correct’ interpretation of the law:

Trump says that under his new policy, “future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic US citizenship.”
I wholeheartedly agree with this and would love to see it end. However I will point out that Trump made these exact same promises before in 2018 and never followed through:

While on the campaign trail to be governor in 2018, DeSantis also opposed birthright citizenship and suggested he didn’t think an executive order could end it. However he did say if Trump tried to use an executive order to end it, the order would be immediately challenged in the courts and we would get a resolution:
Obviously this is a no-brainer. It has to be ended because, as Trump says, it’s a huge draw for illegal immigration. Whether the Supreme Court would resolve the issue remains to be seen. But an executive order would likely lead us to that point.
