I’ve been listening and reading multiple sources today, trying to work out the specifics of what happens on Sunday if they pass the reconciliation bill. Here’s what I know.
On Sunday, the House members will be voting on the reconciliation bill, which is basically changes they want to make to the Senate HCR bill. If they pass the reconciliation bill, then by virtue of the ‘slaughter rule’, the Senate bill will also pass the House. Once all is passed, the reconciliation bill goes to the Senate for approval while the senate bill goes to the President to be signed into law.
What this means is that the reconciliation bill no longer matters for passage of health care reform because this Senate bill will become the law of the land once it’s signed by the President. Thus the Senate can kill the reconciliation bill if they want and it won’t matter. In fact, many are predicting that the President will stop pushing for the reconciliation bill and move on to something else (ie. immigration) and we will have whatever the Senate bill has deemed as health care reform, including all of the bribes that accompanied it’s passage.
So there you have it. If I am wrong someone please correct me, but I am pretty sure this is right.
