It looks like the leader of the Senate is now breaking with Trump, telling a reporter that he’s open to “whatever works” to keep from having another shutdown and to keep Trump from feeling like he has to declare a National Emergency to build the wall. That includes DACA, raising the debt ceiling, or comprehensive immigration reform.
McConnell also says he supports new legislation to make government shutdowns more difficult.
Basically he’s saying that DACA, raising the debt ceiling and comprehensive immigration reform are all on the table. He doesn’t want another government shutdown and he’ll sell out to get it. He also clearly doesn’t want Trump to declare a National Emergency either.
The only thing stopping him would be Pelosi being entrenched on border wall funding. If she’s not willing to move on that point, then no matter how willing to sell out McConnell is and how many Democrats he gets to agree with him, she won’t allow it to come to a vote in the House.
