The White House has released a statement now explaining the back and forth between the Eagles and the White House that led to the organization being disinvited from the White House ceremony today.
Wow. It sounds like the Eagles did abandon their fans. Why wouldn’t they keep their commitment on June 5th, especially considering they are in DC today? This is a White House visit. You don’t schedule something else during the time you’ve already agreed to visit the White House for a celebration ceremony, assuming that’s what they did.
Look, I don’t think the President should have made this about the National Anthem, as it’s been pointed out that the Eagles are one of the few teams in which no one kneeled. That’s simply irresponsible. They should have just released this statement detailing what actually happened. It’s in their favor, after all. There’s no need to make this about kneeling.
I checked to see if there was a corresponding statement from the Eagles organization on this matter and I couldn’t find one. If they put one out we’ll bring it to you.
