Who is in the running for John Kelly’s job?

As you all know, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly will be leaving the White House at the end of the year.

The media has been saying that Nick Ayers, Mike Pence’s own Chief of Staff, is the one Trump has chosen to get the big job. But over the weekend that reporting turned into fake news when Ayers said he was leaving the White House.

So who is rumored to be on Trump’s short list now? According to Fox News…

  • Mark Meadows
  • Mick Mulvaney
  • Matthew Whitaker
  • David Bossie
  • Steven Mnuchin
  • Robert Lighthizer
  • Chris Christie

Fox News went on to say that a source told The Associated Press that Mulvaney would rather be Commerce or Treasury secretary.

Lighthizer also told CBS News this weekend that he hasn’t spoken to anyone about the job (so how did he get on the list?).

As far as the rest, there apparently isn’t too much known about their potential to get the job. What we do know is that whoever gets it is going to have to deal with a Democratic House targeting Trump left and right with subpoenas.
