Whoopi finally gets one right…

Today at the end of The View, Whoopi weighed in on the James Bond books, written by Ian Flemming, getting edited to take out the ‘N’ word as well as other racial slurs that might be in them.

For once she came out against this kind of censorship, arguing that children and young adults should be able to read ‘how people thought’ at those times, even if it contains the ‘N’ word.

Watch:

I wonder why this same argument doesn’t apply to confederate statues?

What’s interesting is that while Whoopi got this one right, her counterpart at the table disagreed:

Hostin then chimed in with the counterpoint as she referenced the Live and Let Die book, in which Bond “uses the n-word to describe almost every Black person that he sees” while visiting Harlem.

“In my view, the sensitivity of the edits now say Black man, Black woman, Black person — and I appreciate that,” she said. “You don’t have to call me the n-word for me to understand my oppression, and I think when someone who is oppressed tells you that, I think you should listen.”

Her oppression? She’s been privileged her entire life! What a joke.

I would note regarding Whoopi that by standing up against censorship of these books, her position allows her to keep bashing DeSantis and not be a hypocrite, at least from her perspective. I understand how ridiculous it is to Bash DeSantis for this, but I suspect that might be part of her motivation in taking this position.
